PRELUDE

Praise the Lord!
The Lord will never leave us alone.

HYMN #446 Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken
CALL TO CONFESSION Liturgist
Let us confess our sins to the one who sacrificed for us and waits in mercy to forgive.
- OF CONFESSION (Unison) Liturgist
Dear God, you gave us your only son, yet we fail to give you our best. You answer our prayers, even though we pray with a haughty spirit. You continue to bless us, even as we ignore those in need. Forgive us, we pray, and turn us toward you, for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
SILENT PRAYERS OF CONFESSION MAY BE OFFERED
DECLARATION OF FORGIVENESS Liturgist
Christ, who is our high priest, made himself a sacrifice once and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Therefore, be reconciled to God, sin no more, and do all things for the glory of God.
SPECIAL MUSIC
CHILDREN’S TIME (Children may leave to go to Sunday School after Children’s Time.)
- FOR ILLUMINATION (Unison) Liturgist
O God, wash and anoint us with your word of truth. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
FIRST SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 127 from The Message Liturgist
1-2 If God doesn’t build the house,
the builders only build shacks.
If God doesn’t guard the city,
the night watchman might as well nap.
It’s useless to rise early and go to bed late,
and work your worried fingers to the bone.
Don’t you know he enjoys
giving rest to those he loves?
3-5 Don’t you see that children are God’s best gift?
the fruit of the womb his generous legacy?
Like a warrior’s fistful of arrows
are the children of a vigorous youth.
Oh, how blessed are you parents,
with your quivers full of children!
Your enemies don’t stand a chance against you;
you’ll sweep them right off your doorstep.
SECOND SCRIPTURE READING: Mark 12:38-44 Rev. Brian Copeland
38As he taught, he said, "Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces, 39and to have the best seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets! 40They devour widows' houses and for the sake of appearance say long prayers. They will receive the greater condemnation."
41He sat down opposite the treasury and watched the crowd putting money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. 42A poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which are worth a penny. 43Then he called his disciples and said to them, "Truly I tell you; this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the treasury. 44For all of them have contributed out of their abundance; but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had; all she had to live on."
The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
Sermon “How Do We Contribute?” Rev. Brian Copeland
HYMN #428 We Give Thee But Thine Own
Affirmation of Faith. Adapted from the Scots Confession
We confess and acknowledge one God alone, to Whom we must cleave, Whom alone we must serve, Whom only we must worship, and in Whom alone we put our trust. Who is eternal, infinite, immeasurable, incomprehensible, omnipotent, invisible; one in substance and yet distinct in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. We most surely believe that God preserved, instructed, multiplied, honored, adorned, and called from death to life His Kirk in all ages since Adam until the coming of Christ Jesus in the flesh. Amen
