HYMN #464 Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee
CALL TO CONFESSION Liturgist
Let us confess our sins to the all-wise God who is gracious and merciful
and keeps covenant with us.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION (Unison) Liturgist
All-knowing God, we are your children,
but we have turned away from your wisdom and walked in our own ways.
We have lived carelessly and squandered time.
We have been foolish and failed to understand your will.
We have been drunk with the wine of this world and debauched in our own desires.
Purge us from evil and fill us with your Spirit. Clear our minds from clutter
that we may discern what is right and walk in your ways. Amen.
SILENT PRAYERS OF CONFESSION MAY BE OFFERED
DECLARATION OF FORGIVENESS Liturgist
The Lord is gracious and merciful!
God shows great and steadfast love to us through Jesus Christ, our bread of life.
By his flesh and blood our sins are forgiven and we have eternal life. Alleluia! Amen.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION (Unison) Liturgist
Great God of steadfast love,
we study your works and delight in your ways. Illumine our understanding by your Holy Spirit, that we may reverence your name, grow in your wisdom, and discern between good and evil. Amen.
FIRST SCRIPTURE READING: Psalm 111:1-10 Liturgist
1Praise the LORD!
I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart,
in the company of the upright, in the congregation.
2Great are the works of the LORD,
studied by all who delight in them.
3Full of honor and majesty is his work,
and his righteousness endures forever.
4He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds;
the LORD is gracious and merciful.
5He provides food for those who fear him;
he is ever mindful of his covenant.
6He has shown his people the power of his works,
in giving them the heritage of the nations.
7The works of his hands are faithful and just;
all his precepts are trustworthy.
8They are established forever and ever,
to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.
9He sent redemption to his people;
he has commanded his covenant forever.
Holy and awesome is his name.
10The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;
all those who practice it have a good understanding.
His praise endures forever.
SECOND SCRIPTURE READING: Ephesians 5:15-20
Be careful then how you live, not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of the time, because the days are evil.
So do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery;
but be filled with the Spirit, as you sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks to God the Father at all times and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
